Check out these three trends from the 90's that are back!
1. Pokémon GO
If you haven't heard about the release of Pokémon Go over the last month then you must have been living under a rock. It's been carnage since the app was released, with huge crowds forming in parks and around cities in an attempt to capture the digital beasts. In fact, living under a rock probably wouldn't be a safe escape from the drama as players have begun searching in the most isolated of places for rare Pokémon, such as mountain tops and forests. Here’s a video showing what happened when a Pokémon was spotted in Downtown Park, Bellevue!
In the ever-changing world of fashion, dungarees, which blew up on the scene in the early 90’s, have gone full-circle and are now trending massively again. This is especially the case in the US where celebrities like Alexa Chung have been sporting them to special events. They’re ideal for day-to-day wear, as well as the chic festival look. I f you’re looking to buy some, then grab yourself a pair of denim dungarees; we’ve got a sneaky feeling that this classic 90’s look is also making a comeback, so why not combine the two so your outfit is on point.
Now who would have guessed that light up shoes would make it on to the list! Reminiscent of the LA Gear trainers many of us had as kids, these puppies will ensure that you have just as much fun as you did when you went around stomping your feet to make the lights flash. Luckily, BEAMs have a small in-shoe switch so that you can select the LED mode and leave it on. Being able to choose from the 11 modes (7 static colours, 1 strobe, and 3 colour-cycling settings) means you you’ll be able to find the perfect one to suit your mood or your style. One of our favourite things to do with our light up shoes is take photos at night using long exposure. The shoes leave awesome light trails, which remind me of the long exposure shots of traffic. If you don’t have a fancy camera then you buy download the app ‘Slow Shutter’ which does a decent job.
Bonus: Pokémon GO + light up shoes
It’s great to see each one of these iconic 90’s themes making a comeback today, but the real cherry on top is seeing two of these trends converge in to one fantastic, colourful and slightly bizarre result. One of our favourite customers has painted her White Originals so that they look straight out of the Pokémon cartoon. How awesome is that! If we get enough interest (and permission from The Pokémon Company, of course) then maybe we could bring out our own pair.
Here we can see Ash has been brought out of the world of GameBoy Colour, and in to the real world. A classy man, you can see here that he is showcasing a pair of Silver Editions.
What a time to be alive, ey?
